The Beginning of the Bump

Here are a few pictures of the shape my stomach is beginning to take--granted these pictures were taken after a fairly large dinner. I'm finding that my stomach kind of grows during the day and then shrinks a little during the night. In this picture I'm "holding in" my stomach as much as possible. At 17 weeks now, Marshall and I have been surprised by the sudden growth in my stomach. Even though most people really can't tell yet, it's growing more and more. And I'm feeling the baby move around now too. I wasn't sure at first but I'm confident now--it's a new feeling...so wierd to feel and amazing at the same time :-)

We tried to upload another Captain's Log a few days ago, but our video was too long. I'm sure we'll try again this weekend :-) Exactly a week from today we have our next ultrasound and will find out the sex of the baby!

Farmer

Both Marshall and I are in love with this dog! He loves to go with us anywhere, so we try to take him with us as often as we can. He's gone hiking and climbing with us, and we've taken him camping. He's such a good-natured dog. He loves to be loved and near you--we're such suckers and let him up on the couch with us all the time. I think we'd both do a lot for this dog--he's certainly part of the family and he's so entertaining!

Once we decided to bring Farmer home, Shannon said that we'd have a baby within the year. At the time, I thought no way would I be ready any time soon! Little did I know a short while later she'd be right :-)

Garden Progress..

I was so excited this in April about starting a garden. I even took a class on how to garden in the high desert (not so easy to grow things in Central Oregon!). You can't plant outdoors, unless you have a greenhouse or something similar, until June 1st around here. We had an unusually cold spring with frosts until mid-June, so I didn't plant until the second week in June. I found out I was pregnant on May 28th and by the time I planted, morning sickness and fatigue was starting to set in. Needless to say, my attempt at gardening really lacked this year. I simply lost energy. Things I was going to plant never got planted. And things I did plant, such as my tomato plants, we're partially eaten by some sort of Rock Chuck or Pack Rat or something. But I have harvested spinach, zucchini, and a few cherry tomatoes are finally ripening. The growing season will be over in about a month, so perhaps next year I'll have a bit more to give. It was fun to at least have something going this year.

Baby Teague 10 weeks

Marshall came with me to my first real prenatal appointment back in July. We thought we may be able to listen to the heart beat. After the typical check up routine, Dr. Ahmed was afraid we wouldn't be able to hear the heart beat yet because of the tilt of my uterus and the fact I was just 10 weeks. Being so kind, she offered to do a quick ultrasound. That was certainly more than we had ever expected for that day! Instead of hearing the heart beat, we watched it beating. It was amazing--literally I was on cloud nine all day--just ask Marshall. Seeing the baby move about made it so real, more than just feeling sick and tired every day :-) We'll have another ultrasound sometime in September for the doctors to check everything and to find out whether it's a girl or boy--we'll keep you posted on that.
